Dog Without a Home

In every day of our lives we see animals roaming around specifically dogs. You may see them dodging cars or finding food in the garbage. They couldn’t speak their rights and until now, there are still people who don’t recognize them as part of our society. These are stray dogs; a dog without a shelter nor an owner. Dogs who strive by themselves in order to live for there are no government agencies assigned for their welfare.

[1]These stray animals roam the streets, often attempting to salvage whatever leftover food they can find in garbage cans and canals. If they’re lucky, they are rescued and adopted by kind souls willing to welcome them into their homes and give them the comfort and shelter that they need. A normal day for a stray, however, would be devoid of much human contact, lest they find themselves in any additional form of danger.

The harsh reality for stray animals in the Philippines is that there are just too many of them. Many people resort to harming or killing off entire stray animal populations for the safety of their own properties.

The number of stray animals in Buhi, Camarines Sur is also a lot and some people consider them as pitiful or maybe harmful for Buhinons because these stray dogs may be dangerous especially to children. Without proper vaccination and training, these stray animals could contain rabies and may obtain a perilous attitude. However, it is not their choice to become stray animals. Their pain and suffering is as real as the one’s experienced by people living in the streets. It is just somehow saddening how there are a lot of people spending thousands of money just to buy a pet with a breed while there are also a lot of animals needing care in the streets.

For those who have the capability to adopt and take care of a stray animal, please do have a kind heart and adapt those who in need of care and attention because animals are created by God and as people who have much more capability with taking care of each other, it is our obligation to take care of them too. And for those Buhinons who happened to own a pet dog, have the initiative to put a dog leash on your pets for the Buhinons to not worry and blame stray animals if ever unwanted events happen. You can also report stray dogs in the animal shelter in your community or donate for the benefits of poor innocent animals.

[2]Under RA9482 The Anti-Rabies Act, any dog out on the streets and in public areas and who are not on-leash are immediately considered strays (including those who have an owner or those wearing collars) and may be caught and impounded by authorized dog catchers and animal control officers in the interest of public health and safety. In performing animal control duties, they must still use humane treatment in accordance with RA8485 The Animal Welfare Act.

It is time for us to open our home for countless number of animals without a shelter.
